Inspiration

A piece I created to go in my little reading nook!!  I love how the texture looks on this piece which I created with my latest obsession-joint compound!!!  Love that stuff!  This is a very layered look:  I first put down pieces of tissue paper with printed text on with gel medium along with some fabric tags, fabric strips and other pieces of paper I had made prints on with my gelli plate. Then I rubbed on some acrylic paint with my fingers, let all that dry and then spread on joint compound. When layering make sure each layer is completely dry before you start the next layer!  I put the joint compound on with a spatula and went heavy around the edges of the frame. Before it dried I took the end of a paintbrush and drew patterns in the compound. When you put on a layer of joint compound let it dry overnight before you do the next layer!  Next layer was some white gesso I put in places to tone down some of the bright colors along with acrylic paint in different places.  I used an oil pastel crayon around the edges of the frame and then glued on the bird and butterfly and stamped the saying with stazon ink!

I'm back!

So after a long absence I am finally back in action!  My husband got a new job and we had to move to a new state.  So for 6 months I was cleaning, packing and moving!  Didn't get to do art for all that time and it certainly made me cranky!  The good part is I have a whole room for my art in our new house but it has a long way to go with putting up shelves, etc.  I have it set up so I can at least do some art in the meantime though!

This is my newest piece and I plan to hang it on the wall in my new room!  I used a new medium that I saw Donna Downey use-joint compound!!!!  I love it, you can buy it at WalMart!  Similar in use to modeling paste but it takes a little longer to dry.  It also gives a different texture than modeling paste and is really easy to spread on with a spatula.  I used it with a stencil on the corners and love the texture it gave this piece!  The beads on the butterfly's wings are white seed beads.  I put clear glaze in the spots I wanted the beads in and then poured them (carefully) on and let it sit over night to dry.  Feels sooooo good to make art again!

Butterfly Art

Love how this one came out! I have it hanging in my front hallway!

Mixed media butterflies and flowers

Piece I made to hang on the wall in my bathroom. I painted the background with white gesso first to cover the old image then drybrushed a blue on so the white would show underneath. Using mod podge I used scrapbook paper around the frame and then adhered the butterflies and flowers. After all that dried, I used Faber Castell pitt pens to highlight and shade and put some texture on the flowers and butterflies using heavy body paint. After that dried I made an antique wash of raw umber paint, water and mod podge and applied that in sections with a brush and wiped it off with paper towel. I am soooo pleased with how this came out! It makes me happy!

Mixed media houses

I cut these houses out of chipboard and covered them with fabric. After they were fully dry I stamped & painted them. The stickers on them say home sweet home.

Atc tree

Whenever I get in the mood to make atcs I then put them on this metal tree (which I think is from 7 gypsies)!

Mixed media frame

Guess who that girl is?😉

Art journaling in a drawer

I took a class by Kate crane called journal soup & got this idea from her. You make journal "pages" on 4x6 cards and put them in this drawer to display. I think the drawer is made by 7 gypsies.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Some handmade, mixed media Valentines I made for my son and husband! I used watercolor paper as the base.
